Melissa George was nominated for the highly prestigious Golden Globe Award in 2009 for Best Actress for the role of “Laura” beside Gabrielle Byrne in the HBO series “In Treatment’’.
Currently filming the leading role of “Samantha” in the British espionage series “Nemesis” in London, Europe and North Africa, being produced by Kudos Films for BBC1 and HBO.
She has recently been seen on Australian and International television screens in the role of “Rosie” in the acclaimed series “The Slap”.
Her most recent US credits include the female lead, “Sharyl” in the film adaptation of “Between Us” and “Mattie” opposite Pierce Brosnan in the telemovie “Bag of Bones”.
Other recent films are; “A Lonely Place to Die”, “Swinging with the Finkels”, both filmed in the UK.
She has also guest starred in “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Lie to Me”.
George played the female lead opposite Josh Hartnett and Danny Huston in the Sony Pictures’ Film “30 Days of Night”, which rose to number 1 two weeks in a row and was critically lauded throughout the world. It also rose to number 1 in the UK. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel of the same title, the film was directed by David Slade (Twilight) and produced by Sam Raimi (Spiderman).
Other films include “Music Within” which won the Audience Award at the AFI ‘s and “WAZ,” with Stellan Skarsgaard (Mamma Mia) and Golden Globe winning actress Sally Hawkins, the lead role of Jesse a young woman with five personalities in “Triangle”.
George was seen starring opposite Josh Duhamel in Fox’s “Turistas,” in which she filmed the title role in Portuguese. George also starred in the MGM number 1 hit remake of “The Amityville Horror” opposite Ryan Reynolds. (Grossing over 100 million worldwide) Additional film credits include; the comedies “Sugar and Spice;” and “Down with Love,” opposite Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger; “Dark City” opposite Kiefer Sutherland, Jennifer Connelly and William Hurt; “The Limey” opposite Terrence Stamp and directed by Steven Soderbergh; David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive” with Naomi Watts, and “Derailed” opposite Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston.
George’s career turned a corner with the critically acclaimed and highly anticipated HBO original series “In Treatment” with Gabriel Byrne and Diane Weist. The series, executive produced by writer-director Rodrigo Garcia (HBO’s “Carnivale” and “Big Love” and films such as “Nine Lives” and “Something You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her”) and Mark Wahlberg, centers on a therapist (Byrne) who is an esteemed psychiatrist to his patient (George) but, while trying to treat her for her addictions to all things including men ,he falls in love with her. “In Treatment” won the AFI, was voted the top 10 TV shows of the year and George gained a Golden Globe nomination for her fierce portrayal of Laura.
