Jane Bodie is a playwright and screenwriter who was Associate Artist at Griffin Theatre Company in 2013. She was also Head of Playwriting at NIDA 2010-2013.
Her plays include; Fourplay (Trades Hall, Assembly Rooms Edinburgh Festival), Hilt (Playbox, Theatre Royal Bath, Edinburgh Festival), Ride (Beckett Theatre, Belvoir Street, Assembly Rooms Edinburgh Festival, Rattlestick Theatre NY starring Josh Lucas and Summer Phoenix, and Fox Theatricals Reading), Through, A Single Act (Hampstead Theatre London, MTC), Hinterland (Commissioned by NIDA).
A Single Act was nominated for the 2007 NSW Premier’s Literary Award and won the 2006 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award. Other more recent plays include Home By Now, Unit, Out Of Me (Soho Theatre, London), and Hallelujah (Theatre 503 London). Jane has directed many of the above productions.
In 2011 Griffin Theatre Company produced the world premiere of This Year’s Ashes. Jane was short-listed for the Ewa Czagor Memorial Award in 2000 for her work as an emerging director and Ride was nominated for the Patrick White Playwright’s Award. Jane was one of the writers for the STC’s Blue Prints Literary Program, she worked at the Royal Court Theatre with the Young Writers Programme and was chosen for an attachment to the National Theatre in the United Kingdom in 2005.
Her most recent play Music opened at the Stables Theatre for Griffin Independent/Stories Like These Productions in 2014 and Savage was written for Bell Shakespeare’s Minds Eye program and read at the 2014 PWA National Play Festival. Her plays Ride and Fourplay will be presented as a double bill at the Eternity Playhouse for Darlinghurst Theatre Company in 2015. The Melbourne Theatre Company commissioned her play Near Life and she is also co-writing a commission for Ilbijerri Theatre Company with Wilma Reading.
Jane has also written extensively for television, radio and film. Her tv credits include Crash/Burn, The Secret Life of Us, No Angels, Echo Beach, Nearly Famous and Moving Wallpaper. Her feature film Dick Kerr’s Ladies is currently in development with World Productions (UK), her short film Alice was the Winner of Best Film in the anthology series POV and was selected for screening at Cannes Film Festival.
Jane was written three radio dramas for ABC Radio National and one for the BBC’s Radio Four.
