Melissa is an Australian playwright and screenwriter currently living in London. She is the recipient of commissions and prizes from Arts Victoria, Ian Potter Cultural Trust, La Mama, Transport Accident Commission’s ‘Make a Film, Make a Difference’ competition, Platform Youth Theatre and the Children’s Literature Board of Australia.
Melissa attended the 2007 World Interplay Playwright’s Festival as one of nine Australian delegates. She co-wrote Hazel Curtis: Fear Doctor with Petra Kalive (dir. Jason Geary) and has written Shedding (dir. Sam Strong) for La Mama, and Citizen Corps (dir. Clare Watson) for Platform Youth Theatre. Her play Stop. Rewind (dir. Anne Browning) premiered at Red Stitch Theatre in Melbourne in 2010 and will tour nationally in 2012.
In 2011 Melissa completed a Masters in Writing for Performance at Goldsmiths University of London with the assistance of the Rae and Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship. Her latest play Beached (dir. Anthony Clark) had a reading at Soho Theatre in June 2010 and has since won the 2010 Patrick White Award from the Sydney Theatre Company. Melissa is currently developing numerous TV projects, including a TV idea that was selected as one of twelve for the Channel 4 (UK) screenwriting course and now optioned by Clerkenwell Films.
